Rugrat

IMG_2618

I laughed… when I was snuggling The Hero and smoothing his hair (because he is sick and all) and you came pattering over and climbed up next to me with a pathetic “My sick too, Mommy.” Milk it.

I thoroughly enjoy… watching you dress up in girly wigs

I can’t believe you called your sister *stupidhead*. Where did I go wrong and who has contaminated your 2 year old innocence?

I find it amazing that you choose to spend hours pouring over The Hero’s handwriting workbook and refuse to be bribed away from it even with a Marvel Heroes coloring book. IMG_2743 IMG_2753

I adore it when you get that twinkle in your eye and tell me
I……IMG_2605

Hero

IMG_2541

I promise that next time you respond to my “can you please do this task for me? “ with; “My tummy hurts…” I will believe you. And I will hand you a bucket and lay you down on the couch pdq. Because I really don’t like the sound of a stomach full of soup hitting the lino… especially the lino that I JUST finished washing….especially when your father is not home to rescue me from the Puke Villain like the knight in shining armor that he is.

I love it when we are sitting at the table after supper and you reach your little hand over and rub my shoulder blade or slip your hand in mine.

My heart melts when I see you snuggling with The Rugrat, reading him stories and making him laugh.

I am so proud of how you play with other kids, how you don’t get involved in tiffs and are always careful to be a peacemaker or distance yourself from troublesome situations.

Prairie Girl

I love...
how you came up with and independently implemented the idea of a treasure box as incentive for The Rugrat every time he goes pee on the potty (despite the fact that he has been peeing on the potty since summer without any major shortfallings). I just love to see you teaching and helping him grow.

I smiled...
when you calmly responded to my perplexed, "I have no idea where the road is" (for the abundance of snow draping the road and fields) with, "It's right in front of you, Mommy. You're driving on it."

I was so excited...
when The Hero dropped the new peanut butter container on the floor and cracked the lid, you came up with the idea of retrieving the lid from the last container out of the recycling bin. You don't usually problem solve like this, so I was ECSTATIC with your suggestion!

I was amazed...
when I went to write "excretory" down in our vocabulary list and you said, "You don't need to do that, I know what that means." Alrighty then, more than happy to oblige on that count thankyouverymuch.

Prairie Rugrat

I am so excited...
that you have graduated from a handgun obsession to a flashlight obsession. Thank you Prairie Gramma for always picking such PERFECT gifts!

I can't stop laughing when...
you count "Five, Two, Six, Four.... GO!" And then take off in Superman pose, one arm stretched out in front of you and one bent back at the elbow. It was especially funny when you wiped out and said; "ooof... Superman slip."

I try to keep my patience when...
you can't stop shooting elastic bands. "Watch Mommy, watch. Watch gen Mommy!" about a kazillion times a day. I found 15 different hair elastics in the Christmas Tree while dismantling it. and am constantly picking up dozens around the house each day.

Your Father and I secretly listen in and chortle...
when you play walkie talkie with your brother using words like "coming" for "come in" and "you reading?" for "do you read me?"

I just about busted a gut...
when I asked you to pick up your toys and you said "Yes sir maam!"

I love the way you...
say "my" instead of "I". "My fart, Mommy." and then you chuckle. "My go pee, Mommy." "My scared, Mommy." And the best of all; "Here my are, Mommy!"

Last night was the first night you actually woke up on your own to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. You sleep like a log. I burst out laughing when I went into your room to get your clothes out this morning and you woke up all excited and informed me; "Mommy! I woke up to go to the bathroom all by myself last night! Do you know why?" I told you I had heard you and I was so proud of you and asked you to inform me why. Your answer;

"Because I'm FIVE!!!"

Yes you are, son. And I love you. You are my hero.
